Looking at M&A activity in the FinTech sector, with a healthily 948 deals announced in 2025, almost exceeding the 10-year high of 1,035 transactions reached in 2021. That easily surpassed 671 transactions seen in 2024, a 41% annual increase. Financial acquirers were active in this space as 23% of these transactions were made by Private Equity buyers.
The top buyers leaderboard during 2025 consisted of strategic Coinbase with 8 deals, PEs Advent International and Hg Capital making 7 deals each, followed by Thoma Bravo making 6 deals. Additionally, PE firms Main Capital and TA Associates and strategics Accenture, Kinective, and Ripple Labs each made 5 acquisitions.
